Summer Goals With Children

"How-to-Homeschool" Group |

29 Dhul Hijjah, 1446

The first thing we are going to do is to make a purposeful intention to parent our children in a manner that is pleasing to Allah.

Next, we need to set goals.

What do you want to accomplish with your kids over the summer?

In order to answer this question, you have to break it down into 4 areas:

1️⃣ heart
2️⃣ mind
3️⃣ body
4️⃣ soul

So, on a blank piece of paper or document, write your answers.

Let's start with the heart. What do you want your child's heart to be like?

Here are some suggestions.

1️⃣ Heart💓
  • It has pure intentions for Allah
  • he/she is soft-hearted
  • courageous
  • sympathetic
  • caring for self, parents, sisters, grandparents, family
  • caring towards animals
  • caring about the poor & oppressed
  • not selfish

Everyone is welcome to share their ideas. Post a comment to share what you have written.

2️⃣ Mind 🧠

You want your child to be:

  • smart
  • a critical thinker
  • have an open mind
  • know times tables
  • know how to use computer
  • knows mental math
  • knows how to carry conversation
  • has high test scores

3️⃣ Body 🏃🏻‍♀️🏃🏽

I want my child to:

  • make healthy food choice
  • be knowledgeable about nutrition & junk food & their effects on the body
  • have a good body image
  • have an exercise/outdoor play routine
  • know how to cook (jello, sandwich)
  • know about gardening
  • knows how to swim
  • knows how to keep house tidy (vacuum, laundry, dishes etc)

Now, the most important aspect of your child's development, the soul!

4️⃣ The Soul

Does my child know:

  • he/she has a Lord they can rely on?
  • they need to build a relationship with Allah?
  • they can see signs of Allah existence, power, love, mercy, & care in nature?
  • they need to recognize Allah's favors on us?
  • they need to be grateful and thankful to Allah for everything?
  • they can turn to Allah when they are sad and lonely?
Does my child know & understand:
  • the message of the short surahs in juz' Amma/last Para?
    Does my child:
  • really loves Allah?
  • really loves RasoolAllah (saw)?
  • really loves Sahabah?
  • has taqwa & integrity?

These are just brainstorming ideas. You have to decide what you want to instill in your child.
